Renunciation of OCI

There is always a possibility that some OCI registrants may at some point of time decide to cancel their OCI registration for personal reasons. For instance, a US citizen may feel that their OCI registration may cause a problem when seeking security clearance for certain jobs associated with the US government. Section 7C of the citizenship act provides guidelines for renunciation of OCI. OCI registrants can declare their intention to renounce their OCI registration to the Indian Mission, where their OCI registration was originally granted.  After receipt of the declaration, the Indian Mission/Consulate shall issue an acknowledgement in Form XXIIA. The exact wording from the Citizenship Act, 1955 Section 7C that deals with 'Renunciation' is provided. Extract from section 7C - Renunciation 7C.
